Farms within settlements or cities that are locally owned and operated, and democratically controlled by the growers based in them. They keep funds and resources contained and circulating within the community where the farm is located, and create neighborhood institutions to share agricultural knowledge and practice. Additionally, many offer produce to residents, food shelves, and food justice nonprofits.
